The cellist Aleksey Shadrin was born in 1993 into a Ukrainian family of musicians in Kharkiv. At the age of seven he entered the Kharkiv National University of Arts for gifted children and studied with O M Schelkanovzena. He enrolled as a junior student at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and later continued his studies with Professor Leonid Gorokhov. He has also taken part in masterclasses with Alexander Rudin, Gary Hoffman, Maria Kliegel and Ivry Gitlis. Since 2004 he has been a scholarship holder of the International Foundation for the promotion of highly gifted children founded by the violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov.

Aleksey Shadrin was a finalist at the third David Popper International Competition in Hungary in 2005 and at the sixth “Nutcracker” International Competition in Moscow 2005. He also won second prize at the International Competition in Minsk in 2008 and first prize at the Lysenko International Music Competition in Kiev in 2012. 2018 he won a third prize in the Prague Spring Competition. He has performed as a soloist in his home country Ukraine and in countries such as France. He has appeared in concerts with artists such as Pavel Baleff, Valeriy Sokolov and Evgeny Izotov. Since September 2020, he has also been an artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where he is studying under Gary Hoffman. 

Aleksey Shadrin plays a modern instrument by violin maker Haiko Seifert von Plauen. He was also supported by a scholarship from the arteMusica-Stiftung.

In 2016 and 2018 Aleksey Shadrin was an active participant in the Cello Masterclasses, where he was awarded the Boris Pergamenschikow Scholarship in 2016. In 2017 and 2019 he took part in the Kronberg Academy Festival and played in 2017 in the benefit concert in remembrance of the musical achievement of Mstislav Rostropovich in Kronberg Academy’s event Appointment with Slava. From 2016 to 2020 Aleksey Shadrin has been studying at Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson. These studies were funded by the Nikolas Gruber Scholarship.
