Like all the works of Franz Schubert, his sonatas for solo piano are full of melodiously “celestial” ideas. For Martin Helmchen, who studied at Kronberg Academy as a 19-year-old and now teaches there himself as one of the most sought-after pianists in the world, gradually recording these works for a CD collection in the Casals Forum – and then performing them live in the main auditorium – is a project that lies close to his heart. And we now have two further concerts in this Schubert cycle to look forward to!
