Chamber Music Connects the World, junior

The British cellist Maxim Calver first gained public recognition as a finalist in the BBC Young Musician 2018. In 2021, he made his debut in the Great Hall of the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras in Bath, Stockport, and Ipswich, as well as the Young Musician Symphony, Orpheus Sinfonia, and the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra. Recital engagements have taken him to the Kings Lynn Festival, the Menuhin Hall, and the Norwich Chapel Concert Series, among others. As a chamber musician, he has appeared at various European festivals, including Gstaad-Menuhin, Lewes, Stamford, and the International Pau Casals Chamber Music Festival. In the 2023/24 season, he will give a debut recital at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and perform as a soloist with the Maidstone Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the City.

Maxim Calver began playing the cello at the age of four, before transferring to the Yehudi Menuhin School at the age of eight. Currently, he is studying at the Royal College of Music with Prof. Melissa Phelps. He has received further musical inspiration from Heinrich Schiff, Frans Helmerson, Steven Doane, Colin Carr, Paul Katz, and Gary Hoffman, among others.

Maxim Calver is supported by the Amaryllis Fleming Foundation, Geoff and Val Richards, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Drake Calleja Trust, and the Hattori Foundation. He plays a cello by Alberto Aloyisius Blanchi from 1906.
