Lars Klengel

double bass

Lars Alexander Klengel received his first lesson on the double bass from Bruno Suys and began undergraduate studies with the double bass as his main instrument at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig with Klaus Niemeier in 2015. He continued his studies with a master’s degree at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Christoph Schmidt in 2021.

During his training, he attended masterclasses with Professor Jan Georg Leser, Professor Michael Klinghoffer and Professor Dan Styffe, and was further inspired by tuition from Professor Frithjof-Martin Grabner, Axel Ruge, Vlado Zatko and Hedwig Matros-Büsing.

Klengel gained initial orchestral experience in the Hessen State Youth Symphony Orchestra and has since toured internationally with several orchestras.

In 2019, he won an internship with the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, and likewise assisted with the MDR chamber music orchestra. Since he began his studies, Klengel has been much in demand as a dep for the Hessen State Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt, the Mutare Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra Mannheim and many other ensembles in the Hesse and Saxony areas. He has already gained concert experience as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles with Professor Jan Ickert, Professor Susanne Müller-Hornbach, Professor Susanne Stoodt and Professor Tabea Zimmermann.

Lars Alexander Klengel has acted as a tutor for several youth orchestras. In 2018, he began working as a double bass teacher in Leipzig with students at the University of Music and Theatre there. After moving to Frankfurt, he continued to teach double bass privately in the wider Frankfurt area. He took courses in didactics and music pedagogy as part of his master’s degree, and attaches great importance to his training as a chamber musician. He has taught at Kronberg Academy’s Emanuel Feuermann Conservatory since 2023.
