Chamber Music Connects the World, junior

Praised for her “deeply moving” performances (Hamburger Abendblatt), winner of the 2005 Sibelius Competition in Helsinki Alina Pogostkina performs at many of the world’s most renowned festivals and concert venues. She has collaborated with conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Gustavo Dudamel, Sakari Oramo, David Zinman, Jonathan Nott, Paavo Järvi, Michael Sanderling, David Afkham, Robin Ticciati and Thomas Hengelbrock.

In the 2014/15 season she returns to the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin with David Zinman, Philharmonia Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with Donald Runnicles and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under the baton of Mikko Franck. She opens the season with performances of Jörg Widmann’s Violin Concerto with the Bamberger Symphoniker and Jonathan Nott before appearing as guest soloist with San Diego Symphony and Sir Neville Marriner and the Orchestre National de France with Vladimir Fedoseyev. At St Petersburg’s White Nights Festival she appears with the Riga Sinfonietta performing Pēteris Vasks’ Vox Amoris concerto.

Recent concerts include debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and Orchestre National de France and return engagements with the Philharmonia Orchestra. She has also performed with orchestras including the hr-Sinfonieorchester, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, the Hallé, Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and BBC Scottish, Cincinnati, NHK and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony orchestras. Alina Pogostkina performs frequently at festivals such as the Schwetzinger Festspiele, the Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Bergen, Beethovenfest Bonn, Salzburger Festspiele, Edinburgh International Festival, Dresden Musikfestspiele and Rheingau Musik Festival.

An ardent chamber musician, Pogostkina has worked with musicians such as Steven Isserlis, Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer, Menahem Pressler, Christoph Eschenbach, Pekka Kuusisto, Maxim Rysanov, Jörg Widmann and Joshua Bell.

Appearing in numerous radio and television recordings and broadcasts, Pogostkina's passion for contemporary music is evident in her acclaimed recording of Pēteris Vasks’ complete violin works, released in Spring 2012.

Born in St. Petersburg, Alina Pogostkina studied first with her father and later with Antje Weithaas at Berlin’s Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. She plays on the 1717 ‘Sasserno’ violin of Antonio Stradivari, kindly provided by the Nippon Music Foundation.
