Joris Decolvenaer
Belgian violinist and conductor, Joris Decolvenaer, received his orchestral conducting training at the University of Leuven (Belgium) with Ivan Meylemans and at the conservatory of Lille (France) in the class of Laurent Goossaert and Alexandre Bloch. He is currently enrolled as a Master student in orchestral conducting at the Conservatoire Royale de Bruxelles in the class of Prof. Robin Engelen.
Joris Decolvenaer is the conductor and co-founder of the Bangalore City Chamber Orchestra (BCCO), this is the first professional chamber orchestra of India.
He is also principal conductor of the Kempens Symfonisch Orkest and Arenberg Alumni Orkest.
He made guest appearances with many orchestras, like the Kiev Symphonic Orchestra (Ukraine), Musique de l’Infanterie de Lille (France), Orchestre Symphonique 'Eduard Lalo' (France), the Orchestre Symphonique de Namur (Belgium), Chorale Royale Protestante de Bruxelles (Belgium), Noord-Limburgse Brassband (Belgium), etc.
During his studies, he benefited greatly from masterclasses and encounters with Jaap Van Zweden, Peter Stark, Giancarlo Guerrero, Vincent de Kort, Huba Hollókői and Jorma Panula.
Decolvenaer is a laureate of several music competitions, like the Supernova -The Future Sound of Classical Music and Leos Janacek International Competition. He also got awarded the Vocatio scholarship of Belgium.
In the summer of 2020, Joris Decolvenaer got awarded first prize in the 16th Danube International Masterclass and Conducting Competition in Budapest, Hungary.
As violinist, he was a member of the Zerkalo Quartet, a string quartet based in Brussels. Trained by members of the Alban Berg Quartet; Prazak Quartet, Danel Quartet and Diotima Quartet, they regularly play concerts in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.
He also performs with orchestras as the Belgian National Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, Le Concert Olympique, etc.
Joris holds a Master degree in Violin Performance from the Conservatoire Royale de Bruxelles and a Master degree in chamber music from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover.
